Stewart Detention Center Overview
Stewart Detention Center is operated by CoreCivic under contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE places the facility under the Atlanta Field Office, and CoreCivic identifies the customer base as ICE. The current CoreCivic facility page lists the facility type as medium security and names Jason Streeval as warden.
The facility houses adult immigration detainees. CoreCivic's August 2025 facility PDF states that Stewart Detention Center houses males and females of all security levels. That population is separate from Stewart County Jail's local arrestees and separate from Georgia Department of Corrections sentenced prisoners.
ICE publishes a Stewart-specific facility page with contacts, visitation windows, case-information routing, and legal-visit details. See the ICE Stewart Detention Center page for the federal facility listing.
The ICE page is the controlling source for ODLS context, Atlanta Field Office routing, visitation windows, and detainee case-information contacts.
Stewart Detention Center Capacity and Population
No current capacity figure was found on the current ICE or CoreCivic landing pages inspected. A 2023 DHS/SAAPI/PREA audit reported 1,449 detainees at Stewart Detention Center on the first audit day. That figure is a dated audit-day count, not a current live population number and not a Stewart County Jail population count.
Because immigration custody changes through transfers, release, removal, bond, court action, and case status, use ICE ODLS and facility contact channels for current location questions rather than relying on historical audit data.
Stewart Detention Detainee Lookup
Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System for Stewart Detention Center. ODLS searches current ICE custody and CBP custody over 48 hours. It does not search minors under 18, and it is not a county jail roster, booking-photo page, or Georgia state-prison search.
- Open ICE ODLS and choose either the A-number pathway or the biographic search pathway.
- For an A-number search, enter the A-number and country of birth. ICE expects a nine-digit A-number format.
- For a name search, enter full name, date of birth, and country of birth.
- Review the result carefully to confirm the person is listed at Stewart Detention Center or contact ICE if the locator does not return a match.
For case information about detained aliens at Stewart, ICE routes inquiries to Atlanta.Outreach@ice.dhs.gov. ICE text also lists a Stewart-related deportation officer line at (229) 838-1105. Attorney disclosure may require a G-28 on file.

Stewart Detention Case Status
Stewart Detention Center intake is immigration detention intake, not county jail booking. A detainee may arrive through ICE enforcement activity, transfer from another facility, a CBP custody path, or after a criminal custody event has ended. ICE case status, immigration bond, removal proceedings, attorney representation, and immigration court scheduling are handled through immigration channels.
ICE lists immigration court information at 1-800-898-7180 and the Board of Immigration Appeals at (703) 605-1007. These contacts do not replace ODLS for physical custody location, but they can help with hearing and appeal status when the detainee's identity and case information are known.
About Stewart Detention Center
Stewart Detention Center is one of the most prominent detention facilities physically located in Stewart County, but it is not a sheriff-operated county jail. The local county jail track remains with the Stewart County Sheriff's Office, while Stewart Detention Center is operated by CoreCivic for ICE and follows federal immigration detention procedures.
CoreCivic publishes facility-specific material for visitation, mail, emergency messages, money, attorney visitation, and PREA. Its facility page lists PREA audit materials, including audits from 2017, 2021, and 2023. The 2023 DHS/SAAPI/PREA audit provides the 1,449 detainee first-audit-day figure used as historical population context.
Note: Confirm custody through ICE ODLS and verify visitation timing with the facility before traveling to Lumpkin.
